Using the brand’s latest technology, New Balance has completely reworked its FuelCell Propel V4 to enhance speed and comfort with a radical new look to go with it.
Firmly positioned in the speed-focussed FuelCell stable (as opposed to the more comfort-focussed FreshFoam range) the Propel takes the same mechanics from the New Balance FuelCell Elite V3, swaps out the carbon plate for a TPU plate, to deliver a fast shoe at a price that makes sense.
The shape of the cambered plate means it bows laterally towards the foot so, as your running motion creates downward force, the plate bends towards the road. This is when the new cavity in the midsole comes into play creating extra space for the plate to expand downwards before your running stride moves into the upward motion releasing the plate to expand back to its original position. This release is what it’s all about. The energy in the release is transferred – via the dual FuelCell midsole foam on either side of the plate – to the upward stride returning the energy to the runner.
Double Task
The FuelCell midsole has a double role to play in the dance between energy return and comfort. Firstly to provide just the right amount of impact cushioning to the runner while also helping transfer the forward energy of the TPU plate.
